FFCRA DOs & DON'Ts

Are you having trouble navigating the FFCRA?

The FFCRA is tricky, and Coronavirus policies continue to develop and change daily. We've compiled a list of a few Do's and Dont's when handling FFCRA claims:

✅DO Encourage your staff to take this leave if they feel they may have been exposed or are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19.

✅DO Ensure your front-line managers have been trained on how to handle the initiation of these claims as employees report symptoms or exposure.

✅DO Send any pay information to your payroll company or accountant so they can help you deduct and catalog the payroll tax credits correctly for these claims.

❎ DON'T Require doctor's notes for return to work. Instead, you may require a time period in which the employee has been symptom-free or a negative screening.^ Often, your local health department can guide employees on when they may return to work.

❎DON’T Violate the privacy of any employees that have filed claims or missed work due to COVID-19. A well-trained management team and the proper systems can help you ensure privacy at all levels.

❎ DON'T do it alone. Prism Consulting can help you navigate these claims to ensure you feel confident when handling them at your small business. We are committed to helping you navigate this with ease.

^The Department of Labor also provides the following guidance: Employers may require a doctor's note prior to returning to work "However, employers should consider that during a pandemic, healthcare resources may be overwhelmed and it may be difficult for employees to get appointments with doctors or other health care providers to verify they are well or no longer contagious."
